Is Hip Hop Really Dead?

By admin Posted in: Uncategorized

In my own opinion, I don’t think it’s dead, but I think it’s more “underground” If I do say so myself. I mean I love artists like Lupe, Common, Nas and other artists, but I think I can agree with most of some comment’s I see on Youtube. I think today’s music leaves out on what REALLY makes Hip Hop art. To be honest I REALLY miss the 90′s because there was alot of things going on that alot of artists were able to express themselves and such. But I think with today’s music, they completely missed the mark but instead put dumb lyrics about women, sex, violence, drugs, money, swag, danc… moves and etc. I don’t want to ramble anymore. I just wanna hear what you guys think and if that being the case. Was the 90′s the best music era for Hip Hop. (Note: I like Erykah Badu,Jay Z, Mary j. Blige, Gorrilaz Jill Scott, a lil of Angie Stone, Mobb Deep,Kanye West and etc) just giving you guys my musical preferance in music. (Note: also I was born in the 90′s just lettin ya know) just to clear things up

It never died. It was always around, people just didn’t know where the good stuff went, and mainstream didn’t kill it. Hip hop changed, it’s been progressing since it started in the underground. That’s what MUSIC does. Maybe not progressing in a good diretion and losing originality, but still changing. However, I don’t understand what you mean because even in the 90′s hip hop talked about sex, drugs, and money. Some of the greatest classic artists talked about sex, money, and drugs. Remember N.W.A, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and the Wu-Tang Clan? NWA was talking about One Less *****, and To Kill a Hooker, but they were the baddest group of the 90s imo. So that whole “todays mainstream crap only talks about drugs, woman, money, crime blabbity blah”, they talked about the same thing back in the old school. I love hip hop, but I had to find the good stuff underground, and hey I’m finding some good stuff on the mainstream too. Maybe an atomic bomb of good hip hop will hit the media and change it again for a few more years. I don’t know. We can only see where hip hop goes from here.

  2. Cognautic Creix Says

This question has been asked a lot…as my friend creix!!! has told me. Essentially, yes it has moved underground somewhat. It is definitely not in the center stage as much as it was in the 90′s.
I still don’t think you can completely discredit Eminem. His rhymes are still damn good, it’s just his beats are all mainstream and ****.

  3. College Dropout Says

its not dead. go listen to FowL, he won the Red Bull Emsee battle, this thing eminem hosted. the guys only 18 and hes incredible. i suggest listening to feel it in the air tonight, although its hard to find his music. ill post a link on the question i post. he really gives me hope that hip hop will make a comeback.

    Music doesn’t die.
Perhaps hip hop is no longer the bandwagon music of choice….I have no idea.
You should be happy, this clears the way for those (like you) who have a REAL appreciation for this sort of music. The riff raff has moved elsewhere…celebrate!

  5. The Boss Says

I stopped listening to the radio when crunk died out. Now I’ve matured to listening to 90% metal, and a 10% mix of indie music, good classic rock, hip-hop with REAL MUSIC, and a few other genres every now and then.
